Kolenchery is a
steadily growing town located on National Highway 49 (NH 49), 27 km
east of Cochin city in Ernakulam district of Kerala State, South
India.

Kolenchery was just a hamlet with
church, handful of schools and cinema theatre five decades ago. It
was known outside as the home of contractors and real estate owners.
It is absolutely diverse now; Kolenchery is among those few towns in
Kerala, which has made great progress during the near past, whether
it is the case of industries, educational institutions or any other
concern.
The
township is famous for the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical
Mission (M.O.S.C Medical College), which is playing an active role
in the development and promotion of health care in and around
Kolenchery and also Idukki district, as this is the premier
Hospital in the area.
Kolenchery ,
Puthencruz , Aikkaranad Panchayath are at the verge of extreme
developments in real estate and infrastructure due to the town's
location which is approximately 23 km from Edachira, Kakkanad a
suburb of Kochi City, where the Smartcity, an IT infrastructure
system which is soon to start by Dubai based Tecom company. Also
Kochi Refineries is near to Kolenchery at 12 km. This makes the town
nearing to Industrialization. Thrippunithura, a satellite town of
Kochi City is 17 km southwest of Kolenchery.
Also Kolenchery is between
Muvattupuzha and Ernakulam on busy NH49 Kundannoor- Madurai Highway.
Kolenchery is easily approachable from Kottayam via Piravom.
Perumbavoor is 18 km north east of Kolenchery town and it is the
headquarters of Kunnathunadu Taluka.Kolenchery is in the middle of
many small towns like Piravom, Koothattukulam, Thiruvankulam,
Puthencruz, Perumbavoor,muvattupuzha etc.

International Airport-30 km. Nearest Railway Station: Aluva-22 km. Bus Station: Kolenchery Bus Stand, KSRTC stops at Medical
College and St. Peters College. Nearest Big Town: Muvattupuzha - 13 km north east. Nearest River: Muvattupuzha River which is flowing through
Peruvammoozhi 4 km east of the town.

MOSC Medical College
Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical Mission Hospital was
established in the year 1970. The 100 bed hospital started
functioning with Dr K.C. Mammen as its founder director and Mr M.
Chackopillai as founder secretary. Since then, the hospital has
steadily grown over the years, into a multi-specialty hospital; 650
bed tertiary care center that ranks among the best hospitals in the
state.
Today, the Mission has taken yet
another giant step forward with the establishment of a medical
college. It is the vision of the Mission that the healers of
tomorrow who are educated and empowered by this institution, will
work toward the physical and spiritual healing of humanity; to the
best of their abilities.
The hospital is equipped with 1000 beds. Of these, 500 are in the
general category and meet the requirements stipulated by the Medical
Council of India (MCI) for the teaching departments. The remaining
beds belong to the private, semiprivate and the unitary wards of the
super-specialty departments.
The college has access to all the clinical and super-specialty
departments of the Medical Mission Hospital, under the able guidance
of senior professors and clinicians. Since 1972, the hospital has
been recognized by the MCI for conducting Compulsory Rotating
Resident Internship programme. The operation theatres are well
equipped and meet the requirements of the MCI for training medical
interns.Many of the departments also have post graduate programmes
for Diploma of the National Board of Examinations.
The fact that this institution is credited with the first C.T
scanner, the first open psychiatric ward and the first research
paper on leptospirosis in Kerala, is proof of the innovative spirit
and drive of the medical faculty.
Sree
Narayana Gurukulam College of Engineering was established in the
year 2002.
All India council For Technical Education accorded sanction for
offering three B.Tech courses in
COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING,
in the institution from the academic year 2002-2003 .The sanctioned
intake for all the courses are 60 each and the institution is
affiliated to MAHATMA GANDHI UNIVERSITY ,KOTTAYAM.
The
College derives its inspiration from St. Peter's & St. Paul's
Orthodox Syrian Church, Kolenchery. It was in the meeting held on
9th February 1964 at this church the idea of applying for a Junior
College in Kolenchery was mooted. Sanction for a Junior College came
through the letter No. G. C2/2879/63 dated 1-7-1964. The college
started functioning in July 1964 with five batches of Pre-Degree
students.
It earned a good reputation in a short
span of time and its fame spread all over Kerala, and produced
international sports persons and academicians, all in quick
succession that the college was upgraded as a Degree College in
1967. It has the rare privilege of starting undergraduate courses in
eight subjects in that year itself. The college became a post
graduate institution in 1982 with the beginning of M.Sc. course in
Botany. It now offers Degree courses in Mathematics, Physics,
Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Economics, History, Politics, Malayalam,
English, Hindi and Commerce, Post Graduate courses conducted in the
college are Botany, Mathematics, Commerce, English, Bio-Technology,
Malayalam and Tourism Administration. The college at present has a
student strength of 1560. The college is now affiliated to the
Mahatma Gandhi University, and is accredited at the four star level
by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council of the U.G.C.
